'Dead Heads' oppose renaming of Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in San Francisco

More than one-thousand "Dead Heads" have signed an online petition opposing the renaming of Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in San Francisco's McLaren Park.  The "San Francisco Chronicle" says the Recreation and Park Department is exploring a partnership with the nonprofit Levitt Pavilions.  The deal would change the name of the venue to Levitt Pavilion San Francisco at Jerry Garcia Meadows.

The venue was renamed for Garcia in 2005 and has since hosted a yearly Jerry's Day music festival, but little else.

Proponents of the deal say the partnership will bring more acts and renovations to the venue.  The deal would need to be approved by the Board of Supervisors before any changes could be made.
