(Cleveland, OH) -- Multiple rape and kidnapping charges are being leveled against the man at the center of a triple kidnapping case in Cleveland. City of Cleveland prosecutor Victor Perez says 52 year old Ariel Castro has been charged with four counts of rape and three counts of kidnapping concerning the abduction of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. Each of the three were kidnapped as teenagers about ten years ago.
Cleveland Deputy Police Chief Ed Tomba says information provided to federal and state authorities by the victims led to the charges being filed. Tomba says some 200 items were removed from the house where the three were held captive and they will be analyzed. The women were rescued Monday when Amanda got the chance to escape. A neighbor heard screams from the house and came to the porch and helped her get out. Tomba says Monday was the first time any of the three women tried to escape.
