Tennessee Governor Set To Appeal Judge's Ruling On Gay Marriage

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is appealing a federal judge's ruling that requires the state to temporarily acknowledge the marriages of three same-sex couples married in other states.

The judge in the case ordered the state to legally recognize the marriages until a final decision is made on the constitutionality of Tennessee's ban on same-sex marriage.

The couples challenged the state law that bars recognition of their marriages. Federal judges have recently reversed bans on gay marriage in several states including Texas and Oklahoma.

Seventeen U.S. states plus the District of Columbia now allow gay marriage.
