State Senate Leader Darrell Steinberg is now speaking out against the allegations facing his colleague.
Steinberg called a news conference inside the Senate chambers this afternoon to say what he's seen in the media and read in the FBI affidavit about Ron Calderon is shocking and that he's removed him from the state film commission if for no other reason that the appearance of impropriety.
It's alleged Calderon took bribes from agents posing as studio exces, but the Senate Leader said,
"We all believe, and I certainly believe in the presumption of innocence, and yet, uh, these allegations shock, no less."
The Pro Tem was visibly angry at times.
He's actually mentioned in the affidavit but says the claims made by Calderon that he'd help influence proposals are off the wall.
