Sacramento Weed Dispensaries May Get Permits Soon

SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento City Council is revisiting the issue of permitting marijuana dispensaries.

With the relaxation of federal marijuana laws, Sacramento will look to restart its conditional use permitting process for medical dispensaries and clear a backlog of permits waiting for approval. Joy Patterson with the Planning Commission says the proposal sets up the ground rules for dispensaries looking for variances.

The ordinance would allow them to go to the planning commission and wave some of the criteria, Patterson said. They have to make a case. And in no instances would a dispensarie be allowed within 600 feet of a park or school.

Patterson says 20 unlicensed dispensaries, currently operating, are waiting on permits they sought more than two years ago, before the city put a hold on permit applications.
