Sacramento Considering Change That Favors Developers

A showdown of sorts is developing between members of the Sacramento City Council and affordable housing advocates.

The council this week began discussion on whether it's time to stop requiring developers to make at least 15 percent of the homes in new developments affordable for low-income families.

Instead developers could pay a fee to the city. Affordable housing advocates are gearing up for a fight, since they're concerned fees might be too low and developers will have no incentive to build any affordable homes. Council is not expected to take any action until early next year.
