Questions Remain About Illegal Immigrants License Legislation

SACRAMENTO -- There are important questions being raised about the pending law that will give illegal immigrants driver's licenses.

If Governor Jerry Brown signs the immigrant license bill as promised, then California will be 10th state with such a law. And while the governor says the bill will ensure millions of people will be able to drive to and from work safely every day, the same license could well have special markings. Senator Kevin de Leon says that's not important.

"There's been a lot of debate about what the licenses should look like. There may be a slight modification -- at the end of the day, that's going to be the Department of Motor Vehicles," de Leon said.

But immigrant rights supporters are complaining, saying that could lead to discrimination. Backers of the bill say it's imperfect but put the state on the right path.
