SACRAMENTO -- Traffic is starting to move in midtown after a train hit and killed a pedestrian around 9:15 this morning.

Officer Doug Morse with Sacramento Police said that a train headed northbound on the tracks struck a pedestrian in the area.

The person was pronounced dead on the scene. The incident happened at 20th street, just south of Q Street, causing a traffic jam all the way to Broadway.

Investigators are looking into why the person was hit by the train. Morse says the coroner will identify the body.
