Officials Warn of Snake Scam in Roseville

ROSEVILLE, Calif. -- A recent "snake scam" in the Bay Area has reportedly been copied in Roseville with mixed results.

The incidents happened Monday with the suspected burglars posing as animal control officers. They approached at least two homes, asking for access to the property to check for poisonous snakes.

One resident reportedly fell for the scam, and accompanied the fake animal control officer into the back yard, while the accomplice entered the home and stole several items.

In the second attempt, the resident denied the request after having heard of the scam in several Bay Area cities.

Roseville police warn residents that it is very unusual for city or utility workers to make unsolicited house visits.
