CALIFORNIA -- A Northern California county wants out of the Golden State.
The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors has voted to pursue seceding from California.
The "Redding Record Searchlight" says proponents of such a move say they are fed up with Southern California's political sway and angry at laws coming out of the state Capitol in Sacramento they claim are taking away their rights.
More than 100 people filled the supervisors' chambers yesterday, most of whom spoke out in support of secession.
Backers say Siskiyou should join with other counties in Northern California and Southern Oregon that have similar interests and form their own state.
