New FBI Director Visits Sacramento

New FBI Director Visits Sacramento

After coming on board in September, the FBI's seventh director was officially installed by President Obama Monday and is now touring select regional offices, and that included Sacramento Thursday afternoon.

"I wanted to go a visit places that seem to be working well.  This is a very strong FBI office, in the middle of a very strong law enforcement community" Director James Comey said, however it does have its challenges,

"Violent crime is up in significant ways throughout the central valley, but it's a community that's working and working well."

Comey says the biggest problem he's facing is the effect of sequestration, which has forced the elimination of 3,500 positions, a stoppage of training at the FBI academy and the potential of more furloughs.

He hopes Congress will pass a budget that allows the FBI to keep delivering on its mission.

This is the first Sacramento visit by an FBI director since 2009.
