Neel Kashkari Stops by KFBK Studios, Explains Platform

Neel Kashkari wants to be California's next governor. He's a Republican, seeking that party's nomination, which would then lead to taking on Governor Jerry Brown in November. He stopped by KFBK yesterday to explain why he's running.

A formidable task to be sure, but Kashkari says he's motivated to restore the GOP in this very Democratic state, a state which hasn't elected a Republican to statewide office in eight years.

"One of my goals is to help rebuild the Republican pary in California. I want the Republican party to be the party of hard work. Where we're fighting for the middle class, we're fighting for the poor, not with more welfare, with a good education and a good job. And I think my platform running for governor, I can do that," he said.

Kashkari served as a top official in the U.S. Treasury under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, an asset fund manager at PIMCO, an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, and an engineer.
