An Elk Grove family who fell victim to a Craigslist scam is in the fight with one of the home's utilities to get service.
Maria and Roy tell News10 they have been living in the home in the Bishop Ranch community since November after finding the ad listing it for rent. However, when the family attempted to have the utilities changed to their name, it turned out that the home was actually a foreclosure and owned by the bank. Despite this, the Elk Grove Water District is the only utility that refuses to provide service for the family and they had to resort to large bottles of water for simple tasks such as flushing the toilet. The bank has taken no action and the family has actually offered to buy the home.
