Kidnapping Downgraded To Carjacking Downgraded To Purse Snatching

A car theft almost becomes a kidnapping.  It happened at Merryhill School on Eastern Avenue in the Arden Arcade when a mother left her car for just a moment to go inside his school.  Sergeant Lisa Bowman said,

"Approximately five to six minutes later the mom came out to the parking lot and noticed her car was gone."

The panicked mother ran back into the school and called 911.  Returning outside she spotted her son in an adjacent parking lot.  Bowman continued,

"So she ran to the aid of her son who was okay.  She immediately noticed after that, her car was also in the parking lot of this business, still running, and her purse was missing from inside of the vehicle."

The boy described the assailent as a man with a tattoo on his arm.  Both mother and son were very shaken up by the incident.

Correction: An earlier version of this story mis-identified the name of the school as Maryvale. The correct mane of the school is Merryhill.
