$11 billion over 35 years. Supporters of a new downtown arena are claiming some huge economic impacts. Mayor Johnson's political committee, "The 4000," is out with a report today that projects the impact of the arena itself as well as the redevelopment of surrounding space at the Downtown Plaza.
Some of the highlights: 175 events a year that will bring a million visitors to downtown for $230 million annually in economic activity.
"This is creating a downtown renaissance," said the group's Executive Director, Josh Wood, continuing, "we've said it before but now we have data that really proves it."
The report says more than 10,000 temporary jobs will be created for construction and nearly 4,000 preserved in the move from Natomas.
