A former Oakland Raiders linebacker was one of two people killed in an early morning car crash on the Nimitz Freeway in Oakland.
CHP says Thomas Howard was at the wheel of a BMW which was travelling at more than 100 mph when he lost control and ran into the back of a big rig just before one a.m.
The BMW also collided with a Honda SUV killing the 64-year-old Hayward man in that vehicle.
The 30-year-old Howard played five years for the Raiders after they picked him in the 2006 draft. He was recently cut by the Atlanta Falcons.
Here's Howard back when he still had his pro career ahead of him, discussing training camps before the draft.
