CIM Brings Runners (and Dollars) To Northern California

The California International Marathon is this Sunday and thousands of out of town runners are headed our way.  That means a big boost for some local businesses.

We are closing in on the 31st CIM and when you run the numbers more than 10,000 people will be taking to the course with 55,000 spectators cheering them on along 26 miles from Folsom Lake to the State Capitol.

"Certainly many of those are regional residents but it produces just about 1,800 hotel room nights and the economic impact for an event of this caliber is $7.3 million," said Mike Testa with the Sacramento Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

Testa continued to say that December is usually a slow month for hotels so the race comes at a good time.  Some downtown businesses that are closed on Sundays stay open for the post-race party.
