California Senator Hopes to Fund Education with Oil Tax

A California state senator wants to tax oil companies to help fund higher education.

State Senator Noreen Evans has introduced a bill that would impose an extraction tax on oil companies.

The money raised would go to help fund California's public higher education, health and human services and state parks.

Evans says California is on good economic footing currently, but without new revenues the state could see real financial problems in the future.

She wants much of the money raised by the tax to go to education to help keep the costs down for college students.

Evans says the tax is estimated to raise $154 billion.
