California Lawmakers Get Boost in Salary

California lawmakers are getting a boost in their salaries today for the first time in six years, but not all the legislators are taking the money.

State lawmakers will be receiving a 5 percent pay raise today, bringing their base salary to about $95,000.

The Los Angeles Times reports a dozen legislators say they won't take it, citing California's struggling economy and unemployment.

State Senator Andy Vidak out of Fresno, for example, is pledging to give his raise to four Central Valley food banks.

The independent Citizens Compensation Commission approved this salary hike, but even with the increase state lawmakers will make $20,000 less than what they received in 2007.
