The state Democratic Party is now calling for the legalization of marijuana.
The change comes with the official adoption of a new platform at this weekend's annual convention in Southern California.
The platform calls for support of the "legalization, regulation and taxation of marijuana, in a manner similar to that of tobacco or alcohol."
It came with a nearly-unanimous vote -- at odds with the views expressed by Governor Jerry Brown.
A moritorium on oil fracking was also included until more restrictive environmental regulations are enacted.
