Brown Works to Keep Fed Money for Transit Districts

SACRAMENTO -- Governor Brown is proposing legislation that would keep federal money coming to transit districts while he works to defend pension reform.

Assemblyman Roger Dickinson will author the bill in response to the Labor Department's refusal to certify transit grants to the state.

AB 1222 would exempt about 20,000 mass transit employees from California's new pension law and allow projects, including the light rail extension to Cosumnes River College, to continue.

The bill is expected to be heard in committee this Friday.
