Amid Drought, Fire Hydrants Still Being Flushed

With government agencies asking everyone to conserve water because of the recent string of dry weather, KFBK heard from some residents who were a bit concerned to see fire hydrants am water mains being flushed in Rancho Cordova this morning.

Vicki Butler from the Sacramento County Water Agency says this isn't out of the ordinary - even during drought conditions. She says flushing water is necessary in order to maintain the water quality.

This becomes more important when people are cutting back on their usage. The flushing keeps an appropriate level of chloride in the water which, in turn, makes your household water safe to drink.
