Cal ISO, the agency that operates the state's power gird, has issued a "Flex Alert" for the next two days because of the extreme heat. Utility customers are being asked to turn off any unnecessary lights and cut back on their energy use from noon to 7 p.m.
Spokesman Steven Greenlee who says it's all part of an effort to make sure reserves aren't threatened. He has asked that everyone turn off unnecessary lights and devices and set their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.
High energy appliances including dishwashers and washing machines should be used later in the evening if possible, Greenlee said.
This is all in an effort to make sure power reserves aren't threatened, because if they are drained too far then the agency will have to call for power interruptions.
