Series of Changes to the Delta Tunnels Project Released

SACRAMENTO -- A series of changes to the Delta Tunnels Project was released today.

These changes include shrinking the size of the forebay -- the containment pond which holds water going into the tunnels. The revised forebay is down to 40 acres in size from 750 acres originally.

The tunnel has been re-routed and is now just 30 miles instead of 35 miles. These measures will save of money and time, according to planners.

The dumping of muck, removed during tunneling will be deposited on state lands, instead of private lands.

Still, critics say the revisions do little to preserve the delta and still say the idea of sucking water north of the delta and pumping it south to the California Aqueduct makes no sense other than to benefit Southern San Joaquin Valley interests.
