Sac State Alum Directs New Movie 'Fruitvale Station'

SACRAMENTO -- Sac State alum turned filmmaker Ryan Coogler has made a film on a tough subject.

He is telling the story of Oscar Grant, the unarmed 22-year-old who was shot and killed by a BART officer at Oakland's Fruitvale Station in the early morning of Jan. 1, 2009.

The film chronicles the ordinary actions of Grant, as his day takes a devastating turn.

His film, "Fruitvale Station" was the winner of the Grand Jury and Audience awards at the Sundance Film Festival.
