Four Dead When Car Was Struck by Train in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. -- Four people are dead and one other injured after vehicle drove into the path of a freight train in Fresno.

The California Highway Patrol says a car carrying five people drove onto the tracks and was broadsided by the train early this morning.

CHP says the Union Pacific train was traveling at about 40 miles an hour and was sounding its horns and had its headlights on around 1:45 a.m.

The dead victims include two 20-year-olds, a 21-year-old and an 18-year-old. Their names have not been released.

A fifth passenger was transported to the hospital with major injuries. Investigators say it is immediately not known why the collision occurred or whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
