The state's emergency operations center at Mather Field opened up today in response to wildfires burning around the state. The California Emergency Management Agency, or Cal EMA, activated the State Operations Center and Joint Information Center.
Cal EMA also deployed two Cal EMA strike teams - each composed of five engines - and eight local government strike teams to support fire response operations in Ventura and Riverside counties. The Ventura County fire is threatening homes and burned more than 6-thousand acres.
Cal EMA officials urged Californians to use extreme caution in the wake of a very dry winter, rising temperatures and strong winds.
