Cinnamon Scented Gas

New York's Office of Emergency Management is using the scent of cinnamon to add some spice to its gas lines. According to the "New York Post," as the city upgraded a natural gas pipeline in Harlem, they spiked the gas with the smell of cinnamon. A spokesman says the spicy smell was added to mask the scent of mercaptan, the chemical added to natural gas to allow people to detect possible gas leaks.
