California Juvenile Justice System Nat'l Model

The results of this study are in a report released by the National Juvenile Justice Network and the Texas Public Policy Foundation's Center for Effective Justice. They say the state reduced the number of young people in corrections facilities by 41 percent between 2000 and 2010.

Based on those numbers, California is one of nine states leading the nation in reducing juvenile incarceration. The report summary credits the state with recognizing that young offenders develop differently than adults and are more likely to be able to change their lives through rehabilitation programs.
